Are We Unconsciously Complicit: The Unspoken Experience of Our BIPOC Clients and Colleagues

As part of this workshop, Dr. Mathew will strive to raise awareness about the subtle and unconscious clinical practices that impact treatment of the BIPOC community. Attendees will listen to members of the BIPOC community give short testimonials about the challenges they face while seeking mental healthcare. Dr. Mathew will provide practical solutions to cope with racial battle fatigue and identify methods to engage in diversity dialogues from a wellness perspective. Attendees will participate in experiential exercises to help learn how to provide culturally responsive mental healthcare. Opportunities for self-assessment and the sharing of practical solutions will be provided.

Examining White Supremacy Culture and White Race Socialization as an Ethical Imperative

Ethical standards and multicultural guidelines dictate that psychologists examine our own race socialization and increase awareness of our own implicit biases to better serve clients. This training intentionally centers aspects of whiteness in order to consciously identify ways therapists have internalized and been impacted by white supremacy culture and how this can show up in clinical settings.
