There are many reasons why psychologists and affiliated mental health professionals join DPA! Here are just a few of the reasons.

Find a Psychologist Directory

Dallas Psychological Association (DPA) introduces “Find a Psychologist” online! Find a Psychologist outshines the conventional printed referral directory in terms of functionality. The resource is updated in real-time and helps the public as well as referral sources locate psychological services tailored to their needs. Great lengths were taken to ensure a new and improved option for connecting the public with our members; Doctoral-Level Psychologists who show their commitment to the profession through membership in DPA. We are confident that you find this to be a useful resource!

Reduced Workshop Rates

Receive a reduced price on all workshops with your membership. DPA conducts at least four yearly workshops with at least one workshop satisfying the state requirements for ethics contact hours. The CEU Discount Benefit is an even greater benefit than in years past. Given the state of the economy, DPA no longer provides discounts to members of affiliated mental health associations, so the gap between the member and non-member registration is far greater than years past.

Psychologist Advocacy

DPA works closely with representatives from TPA on legislative and board related issues directly related to the practice of psychology. Recent initiatives focused on protecting the doctoral standard, educating legislators and the public that the doctoral degree is the entry-level requirement for independent practice as a psychologist. While the DPA Legislative Committee primarily coordinates advocacy with TPA and APA, our leadership reserves the right to abstain from advocacy not supported by DPA or to formulate a position independent of TPA and APA, specifically when doing so would be in the best interest of Dallas and North Texas Psychologists. DPA encourages membership in TPA given that DPA does not directly fund advocacy initiatives on the state level. DPA will keep members up-to-date on advocacy initiatives and will request member participation when necessary.

CEU's for Affiliate Members

DPA has worked to form relationships with LPC’s and Social Workers, expressing our recognition that these professionals chose a terminal master’s degree affording independent practice rights following a lengthy period of supervised experience. We now offer CEU’s for Licensed Professional Counselors and Licensed Clinical Social Workers as well as Psychologist CEU’s given our respect for these important members of the mental health community.

Electronic Communications

Receive regular email communications with detailed information on issues and events affecting North Texas Psychologists and mental health professionals. Communications are published via email and are also archived on the web site. In addition to saving a significant amount of money on printing and mailing costs, using email for communication furthers our goal of becoming a “greener” organization. The cost savings allow us to place additional resources toward delivering nationally recognized presenters for workshops.

Member Spotlights and Contributions

As an additional benefit, members are encouraged to highlight themselves on our website, informing the membership of accomplishments or of personal news of interest. We would also love to have members submit articles for publication on our website. Please email us for assistance in submitting articles, announcements, or advertisements.

DPA MemberLink Alerts

Receive regular email updates on events and issues of interest to members. These emails will notify members of upcoming workshops and social events as well as legislative concerns. At times, DPA will also notify our members of other opportunities of interest to psychologists.

DPA Special Interest Groups (SIG) E-Mail Lists

In years past, DPA had several active Special Interest Groups (SIGs). Given that these groups have become less active in the sense of physically meeting, DPA will attempt to leverage the power of our new website, creating virtual SIGs through the website and email. It is our hope that this resource might reignite the SIG physical group meetings of the past, but for now, the virtual option should prove fruitful!
