Anne Morris, PhD

Dr. Morris specializes in therapy with individuals (adolescents and adults), couples, and families from a Cognitive Behavioral and Systems perspective. This type of therapy focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in individuals while also taking into account various aspects of the individual’s environment. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been shown to be effective in treating a variety of mental disorders. Dr. Morris uses this theoretical approach in a variety of ways (some more cognitively-focused while there are more behaviorally-focused), tailoring the therapy to each client. Research has shown the effects of relationships on individual well-being and happiness; thus, Dr. Morris finds it effective to incorporate partners and family members in the therapeutic process in an effort to improve individual and relationship functioning. Many times, stressors from everyday life (finances, careers, and parenting) can create even more stress in our closest relationships. Dr. Morris enjoys working with couples and and families as they work to improve their relationships.

Dr. Morris has experience working with:
• Depression and Bipolar Disorder
• Anxiety Disorders
• Eating Disorders
• Relationship Difficulties (conflict, negative patterns, ongoing stress)
• Family Dynamics, Parenting Challenges
• Grief and Stress

She completed her undergraduate degree at Vanderbilt University. She received her Masters of Arts and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Southern Methodist University. Her pre-doctoral internship at Vanderbilt University – Department of Veterans Affairs Consortium consisted of working at the Medical Center’s Department of Psychiatry, the Vanderbilt University Student Counseling Center, and the Vanderbilt Forensic Psychiatry program.
