3-HOUR VIRTUAL WORKSHOP

Sleep as a Vital Sign: Using CBT-I to Transform Patient Outcomes

Location: Virtual Event

Date: January 16th, 2026, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Presenter: Natalia S. David, PsyD, DBSM, ABPP

Workshop Description

Sleep is a core pillar of mental and physical wellbeing; a vital sign for health and longevity. Yet, sleep disturbance, specifically insomnia, remains one of the most underdiagnosed and undertreated conditions in clinical practice. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is the first-line, gold-standard treatment, highly effective, medication free, and relevant across diagnostic categories. In this interactive 3-hour workshop, Dr. Natalia David will provide clinicians with a practical and evidence-based roadmap for integrating CBT-I into outpatient psychotherapy.

Participants will learn how to conceptualize insomnia through a behavioral sleep medicine lens, conduct efficient assessments, and implement the core CBT-I components with confidence. The workshop will cover sleep and circadian regulation education and principles, the core CBT-I components (stimulus control, sleep restriction therapy, relaxation therapy, and cognitive strategies), and tailoring treatment for challenging patients or comorbid presentations such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and pain.

Designed for psychologists and mental health clinicians, this training emphasizes actionable skills that can be applied immediately in clinical practice to improve sleep, reduce symptoms, and enhance overall patient outcomes.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe: The core mechanisms of normal, healthy sleep and circadian regulation.
  • Teach: The foundational components of CBT-I using clinical decision-making frameworks and patient examples.
  • Apply: Integrate core CBT-I techniques during psychotherapy to improve mental and physical health outcomes.
