3-HOUR VIRTUAL WORKSHOP

An Introduction to Using Internal Family Systems Therapy in Trauma Treatment

Location: Virtual Event

Date: May 29th, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Presenter: Daphne Fatter, PhD

Workshop Description

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy has become an increasingly popular non-pathologizing approach in trauma treatment. In this workshop, Dr. Fatter will discuss the conceptual framework of IFS Therapy including the foundational assumptions of IFS, the three types of parts, goals of the model, and research to date. Clinicians will learn a road map for steps in doing IFS therapy with specific interventions on how to get started applying IFS in clinical work. This presentation will include experiential exercises for therapists to begin to identify their own parts to demonstrate the model experientially. Dr. Fatter will discuss the proposed mechanism of change in IFS Therapy. Applications of IFS in clinical work and case examples will be discussed as well as benefits, risks, and limitations of IFS Therapy.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the function of the three types of parts in an individual’s system from an IFS lens.
  • Report on the qualities of Self in Internal Family Systems (IFS).
  • Apply an IFS case conceptualization to a clinical case example.
  • Describe the three steps that elicit change according to memory reconsolidation theory.
