Many psychologists are approached by adult clients wanting to know whether they may have Autism, or who already believe they have Autism and want to confirm. However, few psychologists have the expertise to determine with confidence whether Autism is present, especially in adults. This workshop will cover methods to evaluate for Autism in adults, including not only commonly used tests but also insights into interviewing and observation based on Dr. Loveland’s 40 years of experience. Clinicians also are called upon to treat adults with Autism for the same conditions as other clients. Although many evidence based and emerging practices for psychotherapy can be used effectively with adults with Autism, few psychologists have experience in this area. The workshop will address characteristics of adults with autism and their implications for psychotherapeutic treatment.
